Revitalizing the Spirit of the Land

One Ridge at a Time

WAO KELE

We aim to restore West Maui’s Wao Kele rainforest and protect the island’s communities from wildfire threats.

By revitalizing native vegetation, reviving ancient farming practices, and addressing fire risks through forest restoration and water management, we celebrate the beauty and resilience of this sacred land.

Wao Kele's mission is to revive West Maui's ancient rainforest back to a resilient ecosystem that honors cultural heritage and inspires future generations. By restoring native vegetation, enhancing water retention, reducing erosion, and reviving ancient farming, we celebrate and conserve the Wao's beauty and diversity.

Vision

Our vision is to create a thriving ecosystem in West Maui, modeling sustainable land stewardship and cultural preservation. We honor the Kanaka Maoli (Hawaiian people) by showcasing plant diversity and beauty. Integrating cultural heritage with natural beauty, we aim to inspire and leave a legacy of harmony for future generations.

E mālama i ka ʻāina, a e mālama ke ʻāina ia ʻoe.

Take care of the land, and the land will take care of you.
